Become a Commercial Helicopter Pilot
So, you have decided you would like to make a career out of flying helicopters! Since 2002, CATS has helped many students to complete their helicopter commercial pilots license (CPL).
Pilots that have completed their CPL(H) with CATS have gone on to work in a commercial helicopter charter, aerial photography, power-line inspection, police/air ambulances services and oil rig 'heli airlines'.
INTERVIEW/SELECTION - An aptitude test is a set of assessments that determine how well your skill matches up to the skills required of a pilot.
MEDICAL - This is taken at this point to ensure that you will be able to continue to the end of the commercial training without a hitch.
PPL/BASIC FLIGHT TRAINING - This is approximately the first 50 hours of flight training, covering core skills.
CPL OR ATPL THEORY - The primary course study phase occurs before the CPL flight course. This is a part time self-study section of the course, which is typically spread over 12-18 months.
HOUR BUILDING - This additional approximately 100 hours of flight time is structured to build quality skills and experience.
CPL - The ‘Commercial Pilot Licence’ course covers more complex scenarios and equipment.
FI - The ‘Flight Instructor’ course provides an industry-standard structured teaching skills qualificaton.
IR - The ‘Instrument Rating’ provides the necessary training to permit flying in poor weather.

- Be at least 17 years of age
- Hold a Class 1 Medical certificate
- Have a high-school level of education
- Pass a maths and physics test
- Attend a personal interview
- Pass an oral and written English exam
Approx £75,000 - £150,000 all-inclusive, dependent on options. Payments are made in instalments throughout the course.
